Who We Are

Unceded Land

The Sovereign2SilverStar event is held on the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the Syilx/Okanagan People.

A joint project between Sovereign Lake Nordic Club and SilverStar Mountain Resort, along with the SilverStar and Vernon ski communities. This events is also a fundraiser for KidSport, which gives children opportunities to benefit from outdoor sport.

Sovereign Lake Nordic Club

The biggest ski club in Canada with over 3200 members in 2021, SLNC has a 50km nordic trail system that is groomed daily from early November to mid-April, then reopens in May for the Spring Fling snow camp. See www.sovereignlake.com for more.

SLNC has hosted World Cup races, World Masters races, and thousands of happy skiers each season.

SilverStar Mountain Resort

SilverStar is famous as an alpine ski area with endless Okanagan champagne powder. Locals know the 50km of nordic trails with gondola access to the peak, snowshoe trails, fatbike trails, ice skating, and a National Altitude Training Centre. In summer, this becomes a mountain biking destination with both lift and cross country trail systems. See www.skisilverstar.com for more.

SilverStar Community

The community of SilverStar has homes, hotels, and restaurants with ski in/ski out access.

If you get bored with the 105km of daily groomed nordic trails here and the interconnected Sovereign Lake system, there are six (6) other nordic areas in day tripping distance.

Vernon

Vernon is best known for the three lakes in the summer, along with four major mountain bike trail systems.

With the valley at 400m elevation and the ski trails at 1600m, there is a long period in spring where you can ski in the morning and paddle/bike/golf in the afternoon before exploring the local wineries with dinner.

Thompson/Okanagan Region

The area goes well beyond the wine and fruit it is famous for. The region hosts seven nordic venues, is crowded with mountain bike trails, and is littered with lakes.

Kelowna International Airport (YLW) is 40 minutes from the event venue at the centre of the region.
